Health landscapes, technologies, and systems are changing at unprecedented pace and pose new challenges for health care professionals. This is not merely a medical development, but health care changes are socially embedded, depend on existing social complexities and bring about new social relationships. To understand and guide these changes, constructive-critical thought that builds upon social and philosophical theories is crucial. In addition, qualitative research is important to analyse how stakeholders experience upcoming changes and which needs and desires they have. Insight in and reflection on local circumstances and the needs of diverse groups of citizens are essential for good health care.
We are looking for a Teacher Social Studies of Science of Medicine and Qualitative Research Methods who can provide teaching in the Bachelor Programs of Health Sciences, European Public Health, Medicine and the Master Global Health.
To ensure that education at the Bachelor level is attractive for students, teaching in social science and qualitative research methods is embedded in the mentioned curricula. That means as a teacher you will be closely collaborating also with colleagues from the respective health and medical disciplines.
As a teacher you are responsible for the development, coordination, maintenance and execution of up-to-date teaching. Your tasks cover teaching at the Bachelor and Master level and teaching will be both in Dutch and in English. Your teaching package will be determined on the basis of expertise, experience and availability, but some elements are key components such as a course on Qualitative Research for Health Science and Medicine students and on Social Science in the Bachelor of European Public Health.
Tasks and responsibilities :
Coordination of courses, independently and in teams;
Revising and updating existing teaching elements and the development of new courses and parts of the educational material;
Development and giving of lectures;
Supervision of teaching groups and trainings;
Development and administering of tests and exams.
Requirements
You preferably hold a PhD in the Social sciences for example sociology, anthropology, Science and Technology Studies (STS) and related disciplines and have a proven interest in and experience with the health domain, or you hold a PhD in the health sciences and have a proven interest in and experience with the social dimensions of health care;
You have experience with teaching at the University level;
You are enthusiastic about interdisciplinary collaboration;
You are interested in the development of new forms of academic teaching and education;
You have the University Teaching Qualification (UTQ) or are willing to obtain it;
You have good communication and organization capacities;
You have good proficiency in Dutch and English, in speaking and writing.

Good employment conditions. The position is graded in scale 10 – 11 according to UFO profile Teacher, with corresponding salary based on experience ranging from €3226,00 and €5929,00 gross per month (based on a full-time employment of 38 hours per week). In addition to the monthly salary, an 8.0% holiday allowance and an 8.3% year-end bonus apply.
An employment contract for a period of 12 months with a scope of 0,8 FTE. Upon proven suitability, the employment contract will be converted to an indefinite contract.
